MADISON - Barbara Ione Montgomery, Mrs. Conley W., age 85, passed away on
Monday, May 7, 2007, at the Waunakee Manor Health Care Center in the presence
of her immediate family. Barbara Montgomery was born on Nov. 23, 1921, in
Oakland, Ill., to Garlen and Lucy Mae (Pribble) Dennis. She was the fourth of
11 children. The family moved early in Barb's life to Wisconsin, where they
farmed for many years. Barbara and Conley were married in South Bend, Ind. and
subsequently during Conley's wartime Air Force service at Truax Field, fell in
love with Madison and decided that they wanted to make it their permanent home
after the war and did. They were 55 year members of First United Methodist
Church in Madison. Barbara was predeceased by her parents; her son, C.
Douglas; three brothers, Slater Pribble, Lt. Col. Harold S. Dennis and Earl
Dennis; and daughter-in-law, Jan Montgomery Read of California. Survivors
include her husband, Conley; her son, James D. of Madison; her daughter, Judy
Casey (Paul Jeffery) of Akron, Ohio; nephew/ son, Tim Shirley of Madison; two
granddaughters, Stacy Montgomery Rhodes and Michele Montgomery, both of
California; two grandsons, Shane Casey of Mexico City and Joshua James
(Bernadette) of Minneapolis, Minn.; four great-grandchildren, all just super
loved, Casey and Jacob Kelleher (Rhodes) of California and Eve and Jude Casey
of Minneapolis; her brother, Max (Carolyn) Dennis of Janesville; sisters,
Virginia (Francis) Heger, Jean Foster, Jane Dennis, Lena Ihle, all of
Janesville, Margaret Sconzert of Eau Claire and Helen (Marvin) Everson of
Spring Green; and many much beloved nephews and nieces, far too many to name.
Barbara was the epitome of a loving mother who felt there was no more
important job in the world than raising children and grandchildren in her
loving and generous manner. She blessed all with her encouraging words and
love. This was true also in the way she related to others and was returned to
her in the loving care she was provided by the fine people at the Waunakee
Manor and in her final days by HospiceCare. A memorial service in celebration
of Barbara's life will be held Sunday, June 3, 2007, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME,
3610 Speedway Road, Madison, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Keith Schroerlucke of
First Methodist Church presiding. The family will be there for visitation from
noon until 2 p.m. Memorials may be given in Barbara's name to the Keep
Wisconsin Warm Fund or to the charity of the donor's choice. For some we love,
the loveliest and the best, who with a love filled life were blessed. When
their love filled life is done. Must one by one creep silently to rest. |
