Lawrence F. "Larry" Meicher, age 66, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, March 2, 2009 at home. His best friend and loving wife of 35 years Dorothy, daughter, Michelle, son-in-law, Troy and friend Robert Slane were at his side. Larry was born in Madison on Feb. 10, 1943, to Lawrence J. and Frances (Conohan) Meicher. He married Dorothy Lovick on Aug. 4, 1973, and they resided in Rio. Larry graduated from West High School in 1961. He graduated from UW-Stout with a B.S. in industrial education in 1965 and a M.S. in vocational education in 1969. He was a member of Alpha Phi Omega, Epsilon Pi Tau, and a member of the band. Larry taught automotive curriculum in Willmar, Minn. for two years and then at MATC in Madison for 32 years in the automotive department. He was lead teacher for many years. He was active in NACAT for many years and an evaluation team leader for NATEF for 20 years. He was a Boy Scout counselor at Camp Castle Rock on the rifle range. Larry's passion for the outdoors included hunting, fishing, and camping. He taught fly tying classes for beginners at East High School and the Patrick Marsh Middle School in Sun Prairie for many years. He also taught students from Shabazz School, Women in the Outdoors, and Wild Turkey Federation Women how to tie flies and how to cast a fly rod. He was a very active member of Trout Unlimited for 35 years, holding positions of president, vice-president, and treasurer, and was also on the Board of Directors. Larry was very active in conservation and forestry management, attending many meetings on various issues of importance to the conservation and preservation of our streams and forests. Larry is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Michelle (Troy) Arnold; sister, Nina Klein and family; sister, Pat (Leo) Kartheiser and family; nieces and nephews; brothers and sisters-in-law; lifetime friend, Robert Slane; and many, many friends from Trout Unlimited and Badger Fly Fishers; and other people whose lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence J.; mother, Frances; aunt, Helen; uncle, Elmer; and his brother-in-law, Bill Klein. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2009, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at WARNER PARK COMMUNITY RECREATION CENTER, 1625 Northport Dr., Madison. Sharing of special memories at 2 p.m. with Dick Berge and Bill Heart. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank the Hospice/Home Health staff that assisted us in caring for Larry in our home. Special thanks to Patti, the aide who took such good care of him. Thanks to Bob, Henry, Reggie and Steve for all the help and support they have given us in this very difficult time and to all his family and friends who came to visit him while he was home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southern Wisconsin Chapter of Trout Unlimited, the Badger Fly Fishers, or the UW Carbone Cancer Center in Madison.

A bright light has dimmed and gone out. Our hearts have broken, but you will always be with us. We love you honey and Dad!
