Dear Classmates,
Unfortunately I won't be able to attend the 45th
reunion, but I am really looking forward to the 50th! After twenty years
in the same house, we have just bought a co-op apartment right on English
Bay in Vancouver--fabulous views. But we need to renovate completely, and
so next week we are putting our furniture in storage for four months while
the contractor kicks up a lot of dust. Luckily we have an ocean-front home
on nearby Pender Island, where we will spend most of our time. But we will
return to Vancouver quite often to glare at the contractor and carry on
with work.
I still have two years to go as Director of the Graduate Liberal Studies program at Simon Fraser, and then plan to retire.
I am awfully busy writing, including revising a Civil War Textbook, This
Terrible War, from Longman's, and completing Twisting the Cross: Terrorism
and the Origins of Modern America, that Yale University Press will publish
next year.
My father died, at 96, in November 2003, which has meant fewer trips to Madison. I now have two grand daughters in Hong Kong:
Rebecca was born last June, kid sister to the princess Sara, who is now
five.
Life is too hectic right now, but I think it will slow down after retirement.
I hope everyone has a great reunion. See you next time. It would be great to hear from you at
